President Ollanta Humala along with the country's First Lady Nadine Heredia, several of his state and deputy ministers, mayors, and other top officials participated on Sunday in the celebrations for the Peruvian children's day.
The celebration event, hosted by the Ministry for Women and Vulnerable Populations (MIMP), took place in  Cañete, southern Lima.

During his speech, the president said his government is working to provide more social programs to vulnerable families requiring nutrition and monitoring  as well as medical care and insurance in the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS).

"We need to understand that children are the future of the nation. If we want to change the country, we have to protect our children and to teach them values by telling them what is good and what is bad," Humala said.

" We, all, must be united to protect  [children] from violence, gangs, drugs and bad habits. By doing this, we will improve our country," the President added.

Peruvian Children’s day is celebrated every second Sunday of April across the country. This is  an important opportunity to raise awareness among people to protect children and assert their rights.

This commemoration, which was established in 2002 under law 207666, states that some government authorities must explain the policy guidelines to protect children.
