President Hernandez to conclude Peru visit today

Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez today will end his official visit to Peru, during which he participated in the signing of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that will allow both nations to foster trade exchange and investments.

Peruvian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ana Maria Snachez, will lead the farewell ceremony for Hernandez at Air Group No. 8 facilities in Callao. The event will also see State Ceremonial and Protocol Director Alberto Galvez de Rivero, and 2nd Air Wing General Commander, FAP Major General Cesar Romero Diaz.

The Honduran side will be represented by the Ambassador of that country to Peru, Humberto Lopez Villamil.

Also attending will be the Director General for America of Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jose Luis Salinas, Peruvian Ambassador to Honduras Guillermo Gonzales Arica, and members of the Honduran diplomatic mission.

The FTA signing ceremony took place on Friday in the presence of Peru’s President Ollanta Humala and his Honduran counterpart Juan Orlando Hernandez at the Lima-based Government Palace after they held a private meeting.

The document was signed by Peru’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Magali Silva and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Central American nation Arturo Corrales Alvarez.

The agreement incorporates provisions concerning market access, rules of origin, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, overcoming of technical barriers, trade facilitation, public procurement, investments, competition and intellectual property, among others.

During the ceremony, a legal cooperation covenant was also inked. It is aimed at boosting a more efficient cooperation between the nations with regard to prosecution and punishment of crimes.
