Considering the difficult context facing the international community, Peru’s President-elect Pedro Pablo Kuczynski believes it is urgent that Latin American countries come together to obtain good results as the Pacific Alliance did.

“I am optimistic about this business meeting, because strength comes in numbers,” he said while addressing 720 business people from different countries during the Third Pacific Alliance Business Summit in Frutillar, a city in Los Lagos region (Chile).

In his speech, he said all Pacific Alliance member countries, except Mexico, are located on a corner of the world that is far away from markets.

He thinks PA countries must examine the difficult global situation to take measures to enhance their ties.

“We are concerned about the situation in Europe; we are also waiting anxiously the US election in November, and we are worried about the Asian context. This difficult scenario requires us to be united, something that has always been on the Latin American agenda without any progress,” he commented.

However, Kuczynski expressed his optimism in establishing stronger relations because of historical and cultural reasons, “highly promising” factors to achieve greater rapprochement and integration.

Peru has to go through the same joining process, as its regions are different and people’s idiosyncrasies differ from one another.

“A key issue for Peru is the way we get united in the country, but another challenge is how to get together with our Latin American counterparts,” he stated.

Lastly, the President-elect urged businessmen to remain in contact with his administration. “Our doors are open,” he told them.

Remarks were made during the 3rd Business Summit of the Pacific Alliance held in Chile's Los Lagos region.

The ex-World Bank Officer will take office on July 28th, 2016.
