13:14 | Lima, Jan. 21.

His Holiness Pope Francis on Sunday praised the Christian apostolic work of Peruvian saints Rose of Lima, Martin de Porres, Turibius of Mogrovejo, John Macias, and Francis Solano.

Praying before the relics of the five saints in Lima Cathedral, the Holy Father thanked God for the gifts of sanctity, which have given Peru the opportunity to enjoy these Christian figures.

"Fertilized by the apostolic work of St. Turibius; enlarged by the prayer, penance, and charity of St. Rose of Lima, and St. Martin de Porres, embellished by the missionary zeal of St. Francis Solano, and the humble service of St. John Macias," Pope Francis prayed.

The head of the Catholic Church also asked God for help to further grow the Church, reaching out to all of humankind and, above all, to those who are most in need.

"Teach us how to be disciples and missionaries of Jesus Christ and the Lord of Miracles, living love, searching for unity and practicing mercy so that […] we may live and tell the world about the joy of the gospel," he pleaded.

To conclude, Pope Francis asked the Lord to rid humanity of all disturbances and strengthen their hearts in love so that their lives are full of good deeds and they may reap their fruits in eternal life.
