13:30 | Lima, Dec. 20.

Since today, a total of 90,000 police officers, including Terna Unit members and female bike patrol agents equipped with video cameras, will safeguard the public order during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Salvador Iglesias, head of the Lima Region Police Department, assured helicopters will patrol the capital city every day until January 1st.

At a press conference, he said a considerable number of police officers will be strategically placed near banks, ATMs, and shopping centers in order to prevent assaults and thefts.

This year’s novelty will be the female bike patrol agents, who will be using their helmet cams on road to film any incident and identify offenders.

“This way the transparency of police interventions will be improved,” he noted.

In addition, the police will reinforce its presence in Mesa Redonda shopping area, which was declared a high risk area.
