Peruvian Prime Minister Fernando Zavala praised his country's international projection and its relevance in promoting the standards of the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation (OECD) across Latin America.

The government official on Monday held an audience with OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria, with the purpose of boosting the start of talks related to Peru's accession to this major economic bloc.

During a visit to its Paris-based headquarters, Zavala also held a meeting with its permanent council members. At the site, he highlighted the successful implementation of OECD's Country Programme in the Andean nation.

Likewise, he stressed the Peruvian Government's commitment to continue implementing reforms and recommendations, in order to better design and execute public policies.

In this sense, the 45-year-old underlined the evolution of Peru's international projection, as well as its key role in promoting OECD standards across the region, starting with the bloc's Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Programme currently co-presided by the South American nation.

Zavala also held bilateral meetings with permanent representatives of Canada, Germany, South Korea, the United States and the European Union to the OECD. They highlighted Peru's fulfillment of commitments set out in the Country Programme, as well as its performance at regional level.

Afterwards, he traveled to Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum on January 17-20.
