Peruvian mixed martial arts fighter Valentina Shevchenko defeated UFC's former champ Holly Holm during the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Fight Night event in Chicago, United States.

Even though Shevchenko was down on the floor in one of the rounds, she was capable to reverse the tough fight and recover to claim victory by unanimous decision (49-46, 49-49 and 49-46).

“My strategy was to do what I know, to put all my heart, all my power, what I learned […] in martial arts, and I did it today,” she told the interviewer.

“I was preparing for this fight very hard, I put all my heart […] I’m very excited for this fight, for this victory, it’s very important in my career, and I want to say thank you to all my fans and friends from Peru and of course to my brothers from Kyrgyzstan,” said an excited Shevchenko when asked to share her thoughts on the fight.

The 28-year-old Kyrgyzstan native has held several kickboxing and Muay Thai titles, such as the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur World Championships and World Muaythai Council and been highly regarded as one of the best female Muay Thai fighters in the world.
