Peruvians Marcela Castillo and Hugo Del Castillo won bronze medals in the 2018 U.S. Open Taekwondo Championship's Poomsae category.

The event takes place at the legendary Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino from January 29 thru February 2.

Castillo participated in five fights. She edged out Thanh-Van Huynh (USA), Jenna Ogawa (USA), Haruna Morikawa (Japan), and Zulema Ibañez (Mexico).

However, the national athlete did not manage to defeat Paula Fregoso (Mexico) in the semifinals.

For his part, Del Castillo beat Jin Kun Yong (Malaysia), Sean Jung (USA), and Isaac Velez (Colombia), thus winning three combats in the sporting event. Yet, he was not able to oust Hong-Lin Chen (Taipei) in the semifinals.

Other Peruvian sportsmen who took part in this contest were Jeremy David and Santiago Aguirre.

It must be noted both Castillo and Del Castillo are outstanding athletes who belong to the Top Peru Lima 2019 Pan American Games team.
