The Peruvian satellite known as UAPSAT-1 arrived at the International Space Station (ISS) on Sunday, three days after its launch from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia, United States.
The cube-shaped satellite designed by students and faculty from Peruvian university Universidad Alas Peruanas was launched on board the Orbital Sciences Corporation Antares rocket.
Astronauts aboard the International Space Station Sunday used a robotic arm to capture and attach the Cygnus supply spacecraft containing UAPSAT-1.
In addition to the Peruvian satellite, Cygnus carried dozens of new science experiments from across the world to the orbiting laboratory. It also contained Christmas gifts and food for the family that sent the space agency.
The UAPSAT-1 was designed by students and faculty from Peruvian University Alas Peruanas. It is programmed to return data regarding space weather by means of amateur radio broadcasts
Monitoring will be performed from a station in the district of Chorrillos.
