The non-governmental organization "Movimiento Peruanos Sin Agua" (Peruvians Without Water Movement) finished second at Desafio Google.org 2017 contest.

Desafio Google.org 2017, or Google.org 2017 Challenge, is intended to support non-profits and social innovation projects in Latin America.

The Peruvian NGO proposed a comprehensive system that captures water from fog and manages groundwater for the benefit of remote communities.

"Movimiento Peruanos Sin Agua" will receive US$150,000 to achieve this goal and fund its proposal.

It must be noted the organization had already received US$350,000 during the national phase.

"Fundacion Ecoinclusion" (Argentina) earned first place, while "Patrulla Aerea Civil" (Colombia) came in third.

The jury was composed of UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Rigoberta Menchu, Fundacion Avina CEO Gabriel Baracatt and Ashoka's Latin America representative Anamaria Schindler.

Other judges included artists Shakira and Diego Luna, Google.org President Jacquelline Fuller and Google Spanish Speaking Latin America Vice President Adriana Noreña.

They reviewed all the projects, bearing in mind social impact, innovation, scalability and feasibility.

More than 2,300 applications were submitted in this year's edition.

Furthermore, the initiative is expected to be replicated in other regions all over the world.
