Lima, Oct. 6.
President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski extended moral support and solidarity to King Felipe of Spain for the recent events in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia.

As is known, Catalonia has recently been pressing the Spanish government, seeking independence by means of a referendum.

To that effect, President Kuczynski contacted His Highness reiterating his Government's stance to support the enforcement of Spain's Constitution and laws.

"Yesterday, I spoke to Spanish King and gave him my moral support (…) Peru has taken a firm stand [concerning Catalonia's referendum]" he told RPP local news station.

The 79-year-old dismissed the results as illegal and described Catalan Independence Party's attitude as "very extreme."

Peru's top official pointed out it was inaccurate to say that 90% of Catalonians were in favor, since many of them opted not to vote, thus crystallizing opposition against the referendum.

Likewise, he called for respect for the Spanish constitution and laws that govern the country's autonomy and unity.

On Thursday, the Inca nation issued an official release expressing solidarity with the people of Spain given the recent events in Catalonia's independence drive.
