Peruvian skater Angelo Caro secured a gold medal at the first Pan American Skateboarding Championship 2017 held in Bogota on August 10-13.
The event gathered 130 skaters from a total of 19 countries.
Caro beat competitors in the Open Male category (14 to 19-year-olds) getting an average of 87 points per judge and a total score of 261, the highest among all final rounds.
The Peruvian skater was followed by Colombian Mateo Vahos Lopera (silver) and Puerto Rican Rio Batan Matienzo (bronze).
Fellow Peruvian skaters Fabrizzio Caro and Patrick Villon reached semifinals and finals, respectively.
Caro ranked 12th —also in the Open Male category— due to muscle aches, whereas Villon ended fifth in the Pro Male category.
It is worth noting skateboarding will be part of Lima's 2019 Pan American Games and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
