Former fugitive businessman Martin Belaunde Lossio arrived at the “Grupo Aereo Nº 8” Air Force Base located in el Callao after being extradited from Bolivia.
Belaunde Lossio touched Peruvian soil escorted by policemen after an Air Force aircraft landed at 12:17 P.M. (local time). The plane had taken off from Juliaca city.
The entrepreneur was brought before a judge. He will be prosecuted on embezzlement and criminal association charges. Currently, he is also under investigation by the Public Ministry for having allegedly engaged in activities related to money-laundering, influence peddling, illegal sponsorship and collusion.
In the meantime, he will serve an 18-month preventive detention.
On Friday morning the Government of Bolivia handed over businessman to Peru at the Desaguadero border crossing in Puno region, from where he was taken to Lima.
Wearing a bulletproof vest and sporting a grown beard, a handcuffed Belaunde Lossio crossed the bridge on foot to get into Peru and then enter the local Migration Office.
His transfer took place shortly after 6:30 A.M. (Peruvian time) under heavy police deployment and was closely covered by Peruvian and Bolivian media. The handing over was monitored by President Evo Morales himself, along with his Government Minister Carlos Romero.
The Peruvian side included Interior Minister Jose Luis Perez Guadalupe and the Anticorruption Prosecutor Joel Segura Alania.
Belaunde was captured on Thursday by Bolivian authorities in Beni, after he escaped from house arrest in La Paz late Sunday night.
