Peruvian court may hear Sodalitium case

15:37 | Lima, Jan. 23.

The possibility that a Peruvian court could hear the case of alleged sexual abuse of minors by Sodalitium Christianae Vitae's founder Luis Figari has not been ruled out, Judicial Branch Chairman Duberli Rodriguez affirmed Tuesday.

"I think there was a sort of pronouncement in the criminal context. However, this does not prevent the case from being handled by a civil court," he told RPP local news station.

At an airborne press conference as he returned home from Peru, Pope Francis revealed the Vatican high court is expected to hand down a sentence to Figari in less than a month.

Luis Fernando Figari, German Doig, Virgilio Levaggi, and Jeffrey Daniels —members of the abovementioned Catholic organization— were identified as alleged sexual abusers of minors.

The crimes were allegedly committed between 1975 and 2002.

On the other hand, Rodriguez informed that a proposal to unify the National Criminal Court and the Specialized System of Corruption Crimes by Government Officials will be ready in 30 days.
