The Central Reserve Bank (BCR) of Peru sold US$ 60 million in the foreign-exchange market on Friday at an average of PEN2,8961 to the U.S. dollar.

The central bank intervened for the fourth time in two weeks in a move to smooth out volatility in the exchange market and to further ease bank liquidity conditions.

The Sep. 29 intervention was the first time the BCR has sold dollas this week, prompted by the recent weakening of the Peruvian currency compared to dollar.

Meanwhile, the sol closed stronger Friday at PEN2.895 per U.S. dollar compared with PEN2.888 in the previous trading session.

So far this year, the sol has depreciated 3.39 percent against the greenback.

In the last 12-month period, the Peruvian currency has weakened 4.02 percent to the U.S. dollar.

Since 2012 the Central Bank has purchased foreign currency for a total of US$ 19.09 billion and sold FC for a total of US$ 7.35 billion.
