Peru's sol weakens to 2.833; no central bank purchases

Peru's sol currency finished weaker Friday at PEN2.833 per U.S. dollar compared with PEN2.822 in the previous trading session.

So far this year the sol has depreciated 1.18 percent against the U.S. dollar, having positive impact in the country's purchasing power.

In the last 12-month period, the Peruvian currency has weakened 0.75 percent against the greenback.

The Central Reserve Bank (BCR) of Peru has not intervened in the spot foreign exchange market since May 29, 2014, when it purchased FC for a total of US$ 10 million.

In its weekly report, the country's Central Bank announced that the balance of overnight repo (REPO) operations at August 12 was PEN500 million with an average interest rate of 4.24 percent.

In turn, the balance of BCRP-CD operations at August 12 was PEN15.68 billion, with an average interest rate of 3.75 percent.

Since 2012, the nation's Central Bank has purchased foreign currency for a total of US$ 19.08 billion and sold foreign currency for a total of US$ 7.35 billion.
