Peru's Rosas ranked among top 10 at int'l surf competition

Peruvian athlete Daniella Rosas held the ninth position in Women's Division at the 2017 ISA World Surfing Games taking place in Biarritz on May 20-28.

The 15-year-old defeated Maria Petersson (Sweden) and Emilie Utrrup (Denmark) in the first round. 

Afterwards, the national sportswoman beat Tanika Hoffman (South Africa), Rachel Bonhote (Switzerland) and Peony Knight (UK) in the second round.

Later, she ousted Emily Gussoni (Costa Rica), Dominic Barona (Ecuador) and Ellie Turner (UK).

However, Rosas did not qualify for the championship's semi-finals after ending third, behind Costa Rican Leilani McGonagle and New Zealander Ella Williams.

At the end, French Pauline Ado won the Open Women's competition. 

On the other hand, Peruvian Anali Gomez ranked 13th in the said division. 

The World Surfing Games is the ISA's flagship tournament and has run since the inaugural edition in 1964, making it the longest running World Championship in the world. 

The event consists of National Surfing Teams –comprised of four men and two women– that compete for individual medals, team medals and national pride.
