Peru's President Ollanta Humala Tasso met Monday with two former presidents of the country, Alan Garcia and Alejandro Toledo, with the aim of discussing the upcoming International Court of Justice's (ICJ) ruling on the maritime border dispute with Chile.
Attending the gathering were Peru's top government officials such as the Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva, the Foreign Minister Eda Rivas and the country's Justice Minister Daniel Figallo.

The current head of the Peruvian State invited the two main political leaders of the Andean nation in order to discuss the Executive’s work agenda following the ICJ's verdict on the sea territory dispute.

The Hague-based United Nations' (UN) top court is scheduled to announced its judgment on the Peru-Chile case on Monday 27th January.

In 2008, Peru sued Chile before the Court claiming the maritime border with the neighboring country has never been defined, thus requesting the correction of the border maritime boundary, in an area of 95,000 square kilometers of the Pacific Ocean.

Meanwhile, La Moneda states that fishing agreements dating from 1952 and 1954 identified the border demarcation. However, the Peruvian government states these agreements do not determine the sovereignty of an area of 95,000 sq km in the Pacific waters.
