Peru’s non-traditional exports are expected to rise 7% this year compared to 2016, driven by agriculture and fisheries sectors, the country's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) informed.
"This year, non-traditional exports will be underpinned by agriculture and fisheries, but a garment industry's strong contribution —after three years of contraction— will be perceived as well," PromPeru Exports Director Luis Torres told Andina news agency.
Textile and metal mechanic sectors will also see a recovery, contributing to the growth of traditional exports in 2017.
One of the products driving this year's expansion will be blueberries, thanks to government efforts to expand access to markets, mainly that of China.
"We will continue working to promote new products. Much more is yet to be done in Asia and Oceania, particularly in China and Australia —major destinations for Peruvian exports," he said.
Furthermore, he said several products will be placed on the European market, mainly in agriculture and garment industries, in the coming six months.
