Sport shooter Nicolas Pacheco Espinosa was named Wednesday's night the "2013 Athlete of the Year" in a ceremony held at Lima's National Stadium.
This distinction is awarded by the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) to the athlete who had a great performance last year.
"I am so excited because it was a prize that I was not expecting. This tells me that I'm on track to win the gold medal in the Olympics," Pacheco said.
Last September, the 19-year-old athlete claimed the gold at the Trap Men Junior event at the 2013 ISSF World Championship, which took place in Lima.
Two months later, Pacheco grabbed a new gold in the skeet shooting competition at the Bolivarian games held in the coastal region of Trujillo, in northern Peru.
Finally in Feburary, Pacheco took home the gold medal at 10th Odesur - South American Games in Chile.
