Peruvian livestock sector's goal is to reach sustained annual growth of 6% by supporting small producers, Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Jose Manuel Hernandez said.

"We have [set] goals. We want to reach sustained annual growth of 6% in the livestock industry," Hernandez stated.

In this sense, the Livestock General Management section will be launched.

"Livestock sector has been neglected and its administrators are basically based in high Andean areas. Thus, they will largely benefit from it [the measure]," the Minister affirmed.

The creation of such specialized General Management department will favor more than 50% of agricultural producers engaged in the said activity. Cattle, ovine and alpaca segments will be prioritized.

The activity, practically, accounts for 30% of total gross production in the agriculture and irrigation sector.
