Bringing regional leaders together to fight for respect of freedom and face the humanitarian crisis currently hitting Venezuela was deemed as necessary by Peru’s President-elect Pedro Pablo Kuczynski.
"We need to build unity among several Latin American leaders and those from other countries, such as Spain, to tackle two major issues: the lack of respect for human liberties and the humanitarian crisis we read about on newspapers every day," Kuczynski underlined.
The economist met with wife of imprisoned Caracas Mayor Antonio Ledezma, Mitzy Capriles, to address the matter.
"Once we take office, actions will be adopted to encourage Venezuela, currently facing a serious humanitarian crisis, to respect democratic decisions," he added.
In this sense, the 77-year-old noted democratic changes are being witnessed across Latin America. "Thus, we must ensure respect for democracy [...]," Kuczynski stressed.
The four-time Minister stands for the release of Ledezma and other Venezuelan citizens, whose rights were violated by the country's current ruling party led by Nicolas Maduro.
"We must stand for democracy. I’m the fourth- consecutive democratically elected President of Peru. So, I am committed to respecting democracy based on conviction and history," he stated.
