Peru's captain Paolo Guerrero is among the three finalists competing to be crowned the new King of the Americas, Uruguayan newspaper El País reported.

The national soccer team's top striker —and current Flamengo star— will fight for the award against Gremio FBPA's players Arthur and Luan Vieira.

The three athletes have become the most voted nominees by the continent's sports journalists, according to El País.

Guerrero has seen a good season at Brazilian Flamengo FC, and he has proven to be an important key for Peru's qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia

As is known, the journal has been picking the best players in the Americas since 1986, with the help of a survey conducted among the continent's most renowned sports journalists, which is also open to the public this year.

Gareca

It must be noted Peru's coach Ricardo Gareca is also nominated to become The Americas' Best Coach.

The-59-year-old is competing in such category against Ariel Holan and Tite to succeed Reinaldo Rueda.
