On Monday Peru celebrates the 194th Anniversary of the creation of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
The Ministry of Foreign Relations of Peru was founded by General Jose de San Martin on August 3, 1821, the same year Peru became independent from Spain.
Argentina-born San Martin was the prime leader of South America’s Southern side's struggle for independence in the XIX Century.
In this sense, the general considered a requirement for Peru to rely on a proper management to lead to its definitive independence from the Kingdom of Spain. Likewise, the Ministry was aimed at speeding up the transition between the colonial regime and the long-awaited Republic.
In this framework, Juan Garcia del Rio became the first Chancellor of the Republic.
Ever since, the portfolio has been in charge of preserving and defending the Peruvian interests at international level. Indeed, the organization has been in charge of handling the nation’s foreign policy led by the President of the Republic under constitutional guidelines.
The diplomatic service is considered one of the most professional and efficient ones not only in the country, but also in overseas.
Thus, a main event will was held at the Ministry headquarters the “Palacio Torre Tagle” (Torre Tagle Palace) to commemorate the Diplomat’s Day.
