Peruvian Foreign Minister, Gonzalo Gutierrez, highlighted the excellent bilateral relations between Peru and the European Union (EU) developed through mutual high level cooperation, permanent dialogue and the promotion of bilateral trade exchange.
“This is an opportunity to ratify the excellent bilateral relations between Peru and the European Union,” Gutierrez said while welcoming the visiting delegation led by EU Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs.

Piebalgs’ statements came during a ceremony in which high level officials and the Commissioner discussed future cooperation and announced a new funding to support the fight against illegal drugs in Peru.

Likewise, the Peruvian government official stressed the importance of the EU's €66 million contribution to Peru that will foster local development in regions with the biggest development gaps for the period 2014-2017.

“This development contribution will focus on areas that can help the country’s poorest regions reach a more inclusive growth through actions that improve social cohesion, governability, technology transfer, as well as boost trade, investment and fight against drug trafficking,” he added.

The priorities for the above-mentioned period regarding promotion of regional, local growth and enhancement of trade and investment are considered sustainable opportunities for economic inclusion in Peru.
