Peru's Brillith Gamara clinched on Thrusday a bronze medal in the women's 52 kg judo category at the Summer Olympic Youth Games, earning the Andean country its first olympic medal in the tournament.

"I had dreamed of this moment all my life, since I was a child and began practicing judo. I dedicate [this triumph] to all of Peru, my coaches, my federation and my family who has always supported me," said the young athlete after the prize-giving ceremony.

Gamarra, 18, won two of her three matches to reach the podium. The admirable judoka won to the Mongolian athelete Khulan Tseregbaatar in the 16th round  and beat Ecuadorian Pamela Quizhpi in her quarter-final.
