Peru's exports to Russia up 134% at $63.4mn in first half 2013

Peruvian exports to Russia totaled US$ 63.4 million during the first six months of 2013, representing a 134% increase with respect to the same period last year, Peru's Exporter Association (ADEX) has reported.
According to ADEX's Trade Intelligence System, this performance was due to largest shipments of silver, lead and zinc and noted that non-traditional shipments increased exponentially by 792% over the same period a year earlier and reached US$ 34.8 million.

Likewise, non-traditional shipments soared by 23.7%, thus amounting to US$ 28.7 million with the farming and agro-industry subsectors as main growth drivers.

ADEX pointed out that the flagship product during this period was grape with shipments valued at US$ 10.1 million, having a growth rate of 45.2%.

Moreover, the entity remarked the item "other fresh fruits" with grenade totaling US$ 4.5 million, baby diapers with US$ 2.1 million and followed by prawns, squid and frozen hake.

Meanwhile, the value-added subsectors which have gained strategic positioning in the Russian market are agriculture, agribusiness, fishing and clothing.

Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister, Magali Silva, announced last week the Andean country will kick off talks to negotiate a trade agreement with Russia.
