Investment in Peru's electricity sector increased steadily over the last ten years by reaching an annual average growth rate of 30%, the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE) said Monday.
Ignacio Blanco, president of the Electricity Sectoral Commission at SNMPE, said that in 2012 the amount of investment in this country's core sector rose to US$ 2.73 billion, while in 2003 it stood at US$ 235 million.

"This represents a significant increase which has repeated constantly over the last decade," he stated.

Likewise, he noted this funding is aimed at different areas of the sector, such as electricity generation, distribution, transmission and rural electrification.

The SNMPE's official stressed that although real progress has been made in meeting rural needs by investing last year a total of US$ 150 million, much work remains to be done in order to be able to talk in terms of success.
