Peru's economic growth of 4.8% reached during the current administration contributed to generating 1.7 million proper jobs in the country, National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) Head Anibal Sanchez
Likewise, the number of employed people in urban areas increased by 1.05 million in the quinquennium.
"Positive progress has been made on urban employment over this five-year period, according to the National Household Survey (ENAHO) [...]," Sanchez told Andina news agency.
Such impact allowed the country to increase families' average annual income by 5%, and thus reduce poverty levels nationwide.
According to INEI, poverty rates decreased from 30.7% to 21.7%, which means 2.25 million Peruvians left poverty behind between 2011 and 2016.
"Although national economic growth registered low rates during this administration, jobs creation remained dynamic and led to non-stop poverty reduction," Sanchez added.
Dynamic regions
The official also highlighted that employment dynamism was witnessed not only in Lima, but also across regions.
"[...] Arequipa, Moquegua, Tacna, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Moquegua, including San Martin, Ucayali and Cusco regions registered relevant growth rates," he stressed.
