Peruvian Defense Minister, Pedro Cateriano Bellido, is due to pay an official visit to Russia from 3rd to 5th September with the aim to bolster defense ties with the Euroasian country.

Upon the invitation of the Putin administration, the high-level government official is scheduled to meet with his Russian counterpart, Serguéi Shoigú, in Moscow to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in the security and defense areas.

Cateriano's official visit to Russia has been authorized through a supreme resolution released Friday, August 29th, in El Peruano official daily.

According to the said statement, Peru's Housing, Construction and Sanitation Minister, Milton Von Hesse La Serna, will be in charge of the Defense ministerial office.

In December 2013, the Defense Ministry announced the Ollanta Humala administration purchased twenty-four Mi-171Sh helicopters from Russia in a bid to step up the fight against drug trafficking and terrorism.

Eight helicopters are expected to arrive in the Andean nation in November 2014, while the remainder of the fleet will be delivered to Peruvian authorities as of 2015.
