Peru's Culture Ministry and South Korea signed an agreement to develop a project to create the Integrated Registration for Cultural Heritage Management in Peru, slated to run for a period of four years.

The project pursues various objectives such as having an Integrated Registration of the National Cultural Heritage in Peru to provide organized online records —accessible to the public— of cultural goods to the Culture sector.

Held on Tuesday, the signing ceremony was attended by Culture Minister Salvador del Solar and South Korean Ambassador to Peru Mr. Keun-ho Jang, who underlined the bilateral cooperation in safeguarding cultural heritage and bringing it to public notice.

Minister Salvador del Solar said the lack of awareness is precisely what sets people apart from their heritage. Therefore, this project will allow Peruvians to discover, appreciate and love their legacy.

"An extraordinary news has been announced today; thanks to South Korea's support, we are going to have a tool to build awareness," he said.

This way culture will be brought closer to people and will be accessible to all Peruvians.

The South Korean diplomat said Peru has a thousand-year-old history and is home to a rich cultural heritage —that belongs not only to Peru but to the whole humanity— which explains why an adequate registration is necessary for its conservation.

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) committed to contributing US$8 million to implement the registration system and provide the necessary equipment.
