Peru's agro-exports touch US$761mn in two months

Agricultural exports from Peru were worth US$ 761 million during the first two months of 2014, up 20.5 percent from the same period a year earlier, said on Friday the Peruvian Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry (Minagri).
According to the report carried out by the sector, the most-sought after products by foreign markets were fresh grapes with an increase value of shipments estimated at US$ 77 million, mangoes (+$ 23 million). 

Other export products which stood out between Between January and February this year were coffee (+$ 6 million+), Cavendish banana (+$ 2 million), evaporated milk (+$ 3 million) and sawn timber (+$ 2 million).

Likewise, it is worth noting the soar in main buyers’ purchases such as Hong Kong with has record an increase of U$$ 25 million from the same period last year, followed by the United States (+$ 21 million), the Netherlands (+$ 10 million) and Italy (+$ 6 million).

The value of non-agricultural exports from the Andean nation totaled US$ 709 million, recording an increase of 21.8 percent from the same period last year and 93.2-percent of share of the total expoted during the reported period.

Meanwhile, traditional agricultural exports accounted for 6.8 percent with shipments value climbing 5.6 percent from to US$ 52 million.
