Peru's agricultural exports reach US$1.4 bn in Jan-May 2013

Agricultural exports from Peru totaled US$ 1.4 billion during the January-May period, representing a 0.18% increase over the same period a year earlier, Peru's Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MINAGRI) has reported.
According to the MINAGRI's Department of Economic and Statistical Studies, the positive performance was driven by the increase in exports of mango, undenatured ethyl alcohol, fresh avocados, cavendish valery banana, fresh asparagus, among others.

In the January-May period, non-traditional exports exceeded US$ 1.2 billion, a 7.91 percent increase year-over-year and it accounted for 90.9 percent of total exports.  

Between January and May 2013, agricultural exports entered 135 markets.

The main export destination was United States, which accounted for 24.26 percent of the total, followed by the Netherlands (15.40 percent) and other European markets such as Spain (6.08 percent), England (4.17 per cent) and Germany (4.17 percent).
