The integration process between Peru and Ecuador is a reality that shows concrete results and gives examples to the world, with measures such as the agreement to de-mine the common border, said Ecuador’s President Rafael Correa.

Commenting on the 5th Meeting of the Binational Cabinet of Ministers held this week in Chiclayo, Correa noted that it was an opportunity to make decisions and policies of common interest and to evaluate the progress made in implementing bilateral projects.

"There are results. If they [these meetings] would have remained just in words and not in actions, we wouldn’t have road networks or international bridges; we wouldn’t have facilitated customs or immigration. Important and concrete actions have been achieved here," Correa said in an interview published in the official gazette El Peruano.

Moreover, the Ecuadorian leader stressed the importance of both countries’ decision to speed up the removing of mines, which were planted in the common border during the conflict both countries had in the past, and added that this measure is a paradigm for the international community.

"This is the first time that two countries that were belligerents have done this. It's amazing that it happened. After signing the peace, we have worked together to de-mine the border and this is an example to the world," he said.
