Thanks to the high demand for asparagus, grapes, avocados and mangoes from international markets, Peru is considered the world's eighth-largest fruit and vegetable producer, Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) announced on Thursday.

"We are the world's eighth-largest supplier of fruits and vegetables, thanks to asparagus, grapes, avocados and mangoes [...]," PromPeru's Exports Promotion Director Luis Torres indicated.

"[...] This combination enabled Peru to continue moving forward on this field," he expressed.

New products

Other Peruvian products —such as blueberries, berries and pomegranates— keep conquering new markets overseas, he noted.

"The positive effects of these superfoods on health are drawing great attention [...]. We have been working on this variety of exotic fruits for many years," Torres told Andina news agency.

Healthy nutrition

From Berlin, he stressed Peru offers exportable supply composed of fruits and vegetables according to the market's need, which nowadays is highly aware of healthy-eating habits.

"[...] Peru is focused on selected markets, those that demand products supported by organic and fair trade certifications, addressed to high purchasing power segments," he explained.

Fruit Logistica 2016

Over 250 national entrepreneurs participate in the "Fruit Logistica 2016" fair, with the aim of positioning Peru on the European market and promote the new exportable supply before 65,000 visitors from 140 countries.

Fruit Logistica 2016 —Europe's top fresh produce trade— runs in Berlin (Germany) from February 3rd-5th, 2016.
