The optimism generated by Peru's qualification for the 2018 World Cup will be essential for reaching a higher GDP growth, Economy and Finance Minister Claudia Cooper affirmed Thursday.

"It's not possible to say with certainty [how much Peru's GDP would expand], but we are enthusiastic and that's definitely a good thing," Cooper expressed as she stressed that optimism is the key for the country's growth and development.

After participating in a Congress Budget Commission Meeting, the cabinet member underscored this qualification will be translated into greater confidence in Peru, as well as more consumption and —even— more investment

Better indicators

The government official also noted Peru's economy is growing underpinned by several factors. One of them is the optimism generated by the national soccer team's great performance last Wednesday.

According to Cooper, the Inca nation is doing well in terms of economic growth given that results are good, even better than what the country had expected for the third quarter of the year.

"This situation [qualification] clearly helps us, and that's why I thank the Peruvian squad [...] as they have helped everybody, even the Government," she concluded.
