A World Bank Group delegation appreciated the work done by the Peruvian State to assist the underprivileged population, especially children and seniors. The activity took place as they visited Cuna Mas program's day care center located in Lima's Ate district, Huaycan population center.
While in there, the organization’s governors and directors got to know first-hand the experience of mother-caregivers and the healthful, nutritious diet they provide to 6 to 36 month-olds. The visit was headed by Peru’s Development and Social Inclusion Minister Paola Bustamante and other government officials.
Later, the delegation met with Pensión 65 and Juntos users, who shared their testimony on how these social programs changed their lives.
Characteristics
Pension 65 serves seniors aged 65 and older who lack of basic conditions for their subsistence by providing them with a financial support.
Juntos grants families with a subsidy only if they meet development-related goals such as ensuring children and teenagers school attendance, health check-ups, and access to ID cards.
Alberto Rodriguez, World Bank Director for the Andean countries, stressed the progress of programs and said economic growth should go hand in hand with the support of lower-income populations.
