By dancing to the rhythm of carnival music, tasting colorful dishes and drinks chicha (maize liquor) and beer, Cusco's people celebrated on Thursday the traditional "Las Comadres" (Best Friends) Day.

Displaying great joy, festive activities kicked off very early at the city’s Main Square, historic center, markets and other districts.

The said event features rag dolls wearing feminine masks and clothes, who parody the communities' most popular women. Mockery brings joy into the environment.

Cusco Mayor Carlos Moscoso along with other regional authorities attended this cultural display.

The representative of the Cusco's Municipal Company of Festivities (Emufec) Percy Galdo Bellota informed a contest takes place during celebrations. Juries evaluate the participants' originality, cultural message, decorative elements and materials.

"We have seen well-done works [...]. Without any doubt, this festivity strengthens and revalues our culture at present time," the official expressed.

Activities are held in the framework of Cusco Carnival.
