Peruvian traditional exports reached US$2.489 billion in October this year, a 16.9% increase from the same month in 2015, Central Reserve Bank (BCR) data revealed.

Said result was mainly reflected in increasing shipments to the United States (zinc, molybdenum and coffee); China (concentrated copper); Japan (copper, zinc and tin); and Brazil (copper and zinc).

In terms of volume, traditional exports also climbed (+13.7%) in the tenth month, mainly driven by higher shipments of copper (61.6%), coffee (15.9%) and zinc (10.9%), among others.

Copper figures were underpinned by the expansion of Cerro Verde mining company, operating since the beginning of 2016, and Las Bambas mine, operating since the first quarter of the year.

On the other hand, coffee volumes were the result of the positive performance of northern jungle crops. It must be noted Peruvian coffee's exporting period goes from July to December.

As for zinc, the rise owed to higher output by Antamina, Trafigura and El Brocal companies.
