Peru will send some 160 members of the infantry company as part of the new contingent of blue helmet peacekeepers to the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (Minustah).
The contingent will be offered a farewell ceremony to be presided by Gen. Hernan Flores Ayala, Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Peruvian Armed Forces.
The delegation is made up of 85 members from the Army, 35 from the Navy and 40 from the Air Force, who will support Uruguayan Armed Forces deployed to the UN Minustah.
Soldiers will take part in peacekeeping operations over the next twelve months while in the Caribbean country.
Operations are part of the Defense sector policy, and Peruvian officers will have the chance to improve their training process, analyze similar conflict and post-conflict situations, as well as interact with units and military personnel from other countries.
The ceremony will take place at the Army’s headquarters in the presence of high-ranking authorities from the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, the three armed institutions and the Defense sector.
