Peru's National Service of Fisheries Health (Sanipes) will start negotiations for Peruvian paiche (Amazon fish) access into China's market, within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum Leaders' Summit taking place next month in Lima.

According to Sanipes Executive-Director Diana Garcia, negotiations will begin once "we conclude the process for shrimps during the APEC Summit."

"We will begin negotiations with China to get access for paiche. Since they [Chinese officials] are coming to attend the APEC Summit, we will discuss the work plan for this aquatic resource," she expressed.

"Chinese authorities said we need to finish [arrangements on] one product before moving on to another one," she added.

Such efforts are part of the Inca nation's goal to increase its range of products offered to the Asian Giant.

As is known, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski traveled to China last September on his first official visit abroad.

It served to further strengthen bilateral ties in various sectors, such as international trade, transport and infrastructure investment.
