14:55 Peru to remain a priority country for Spanish cooperation

Lima, May 15 (ANDINA). Peru's Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Jose Beraun has assured that Peru will remain a priority country for Spanish development cooperation, which supports government-launched programs aimed at alleviating poverty and promoting social inclusion.

Beraun on Monday held talks with Spain's Secretary of State for International Cooperation and for Latin America, Jesus Gracia, to strengthen the Peru-Spain Strategic Partnership Plan signed in 2008.

The meeting also sought to provide this plan with the most accurate content covering common interests on issues such as strengthening democracy, promoting human rights, combating drugs, terrorism, organized crime and the promotion of development cooperation in the current international economic and political context.

Beraun and Gracia agreed on the need to enhance communication between representatives of cooperation programs so as to promote technology transfer, technical cooperation and better use of resources.

This proposal was ratified by the executive director of the Peruvian International Cooperation Agency (APCI) and the director of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECI), who attended the meeting.
