The Government of Peru will promote the massive use of natural gas across the country through different regulations, included in the legislative powers the Executive Branch will request, to stop depending on fuels such as the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Minister of Energy and Mines Rosa Maria Ortiz affirmed.

According to Ortiz, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) is implementing different legal ways to promote the use of natural gas in any form of trade, going from the vehicular natural gas to household connections across the country.

“We are moving ahead on the massive use of natural gas in the country, and by that, I don’t mean LPG will disappear,” she told RPP.

Ortiz announced the government is preparing a package to improve the Hydrocarbons Organic Law in order to simplify bureaucratic procedures affecting the extractive sector, which is included in the legislative powers to be requested by the Executive Branch.

In this sense, she stood out the enactment of the law that will make procedures parallel rather than consecutive and will simplify environmental impact permits.

“For instance, this will enable to process 12 permits at the same time, even through a Single Window,” she explained.
