Peru and two other South American nations will compete in the Amazon Cup Twenty Cricket Tournament to be held on October 4 and 5 in the Colombian capital, Bogota.
The competition features teams from Colombia – which will play their first international cricket match since 2010 – as well as from Brazil, and Peru, affiliate members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) that regularly take part in the South American Champs.
On October 4, Peru first face Colombia in the morning to commence the tournament. Peru and Brazil will then face off in the afternoon.
The next morning will see the footballing rivals, Colombia and Brazil face off and the final would be played that afternoon.
Cricket has been played in Peru for over 150 years, at the Lima Cricket & Football Club, and is now undergoing resurgence as a recently-admitted Affiliate Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and a founder member of Cricket South America, along with Argentina, Brazil and Chile.
The Peruvian capital hosted a triangular Cricket South America Under-13 tournament between Peru, Chile and Argentina in April 2010 and again in 2011.
Following the success of these junior tournaments, 2011 also saw Lima play host to its first ever official ICC tournament, the ICC Americas (South) Under-15 Championship, at Markham College.
Argentina won the forty-over tournament; but Peru created a massive upset to win the T20 competition.
