Peru to host most challenging military competition in the world

For the first time, special forces from 21 countries in North, Central and South America will gather in Peru to participate in Fuerzas Comando 2016, the most demanding military exercise around the globe.

The event will be a unique opportunity for Armed Forces to show the readiness, capacity and professionalism of their elite members by taking them to the extreme in every competition.

Scheduled to kick off on Monday May 2, the event will be held at the Peruvian Marine Corps base in Ancon district, north of Lima. It will feature Admiral Jorge Moscoso Flores, Chief of the Joint Command of the Peruvian Armed Forces.

Also attending will be General Commanders of the Air Force, General del Aire Dante Arévalo Abate; the Navy, Admiral Edmundo Deville del Campo and; the Army, General Luis Ramos Hume.

Special operations from Argentina, Belize, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, the United States, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and Uruguay have confirmed their participation.

The Olympic-type competition will test participants’ skills as they conduct counter-terrorism and intelligence gathering operations.

Fuerzas Comando is intended to strengthen regional and multinational cooperation, mutual trust, training, readiness and interoperability of special operations forces in the region.
