Peru will host APEC's Small and Medium Size Enterprise Ministerial Meeting (SMEMM) on September 9 and chaired by its newly appointed Production Minister Bruno Giuffra.
Small and medium enterprises, which account for over 97 per cent of all firms and half of employment across APEC member economies, participate in cross-border business and trade in relatively low numbers.
Changes in production and supply chains, together with advancements in technology, are opening up huge market opportunities within the sector.
SME Ministers from the region will take actions to reduce barriers to micro, small and medium enterprise growth.
Priorities will include boosting entrepreneurship, management capacity and innovation, particularly through the application of digital tools and channels. Parallel focus will be on facilitating small business internationalization, market access, business ethics and green growth.
The event will take place at Lima Convention Center in the nation capital's San Borja district.
