Peru to grow faster than Latin America, the U.S. and Eurozone

Peruvian economy (3.9%) will expand at faster pace than those of Latin America (2.4%), the United States (2.5%), the Eurozone (2.1%), and Japan (1.2%) in 2018, forecasted the latest FocusEconomics' Consensus Forecast Latin Focus January report.

Focus economics estimates Peru's GDP will grow 3.9% this year. Said rate is similar to the one projected by the organization last month.

In this sense, Peru is expected to become the region's top performer in 2018.

Bolivia and Paraguay are seen as coming in close behind, each with projected growth rates of 3.8%. 

They are followed by Uruguay (3.1%), Argentina (3%), Chile (2.9%), Colombia (2.6%), Brazil (2.5%), Mexico (2.2%), and Ecuador (1.6%).

Next year

Likewise, the analysts' 2019 forecast for Latin America places Peru, Paraguay, and Bolivia at the forefront of regional growth, each with 3.8%.

The report also projects Argentina will grow 3.2%, followed by Uruguay (3%), Colombia (3%), Chile (2.9%), Brazil (2.6%), Mexico (2.4%), and Ecuador (1.1%).

In addition, the panel estimated Peru's GDP will expand 3.7% in 2020. They also projected a 3.6% rise for 2021 and 2022.

Above regional average

It must be noted Peruvian economy's growth will remain above the regional average during the next five years; that is above 2.4% (2018), 2.7% (2019), 2.8% (2020), 2.9% (2021), and 3% (2022).
