Vice Minister of Tourism Claudia Cornejo said the results of Mincetur's Febrero Viajero tourism campaign targeting the public sector have far exceeded expectations.
"When we launched the campaign in January we thought it would generate 100 million dollars in revenue, but it generated over $257 million with two million tourists traveling around the country," she told Andina news agency.
Cornejo was convinced that more people will be encouraged to travel if the long holiday breaks are announced well in advance, "as they can plan ahead and manage their budget," she added.
The first three months of the year have no holidays and are considered low season for travel in Peru, she explained.
