Peru through to semis at Youth Olympic football tournament

Peru’s national Under-15 football team booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games after a thrilling day's action in Group C at the Jiangning Sports Centre Stadium.

Taking place in the Chinese city of Nanjing, Peru won their semifinal spot on Thursday with a 3-1 victory over Honduras in an entertaining fixture that was high on technical quality.

The team coached by Juan Jose Ore opened the scoring through a penalty from Franklin Gil (PER) in the 34th minute, before Christopher Olivares (PER) did the same just three minutes later.

In the match's second half, Quillian Melendez's (PER) 74th minute goal made it 3-0 before Alex Martin Laureano Archaga scored Honduras' lone goal.

Their 3-1 win was deserved and although the Peruvian Under-15 national side might have hoped for more goals, was enough to get them into the next round.

In the other second leg of to decide the second semifinal qualifier from Group C, Cape Verde led 4-1 at half time and added three second half goals to complete the scoring against Vanuatu.

Thus, Peru are set to face Cape Verde at the Jiangning Sports Centre Stadium on August 24 in order to secure their place in the final's tournament.

The Andean nation had successful start to their Boy's Youth Olympic Football Tournament Nanjing 2014 campaign after opening with a 2-1 win against Iceland.
