Thousands of locals and tourists took to the streets on Monday and Tuesday to join the various activities organized to celebrate southern Arequipa city's 477th Foundation Anniversary.
The performers heat up the center of the so-called White City dancing to local folk beats in contagious ecstasy.
Children and adults alike enjoyed the colorful cultural manifestations taking over spaces like popular Mercaderes Street, where daytime shoppers gave way to dancing troupes.
But festivities were not reserved to Arequipeans alone. South-Andean Puno region also joined the event with a large band that took its tunes around the historic center on its way to the Basilica Cathedral.
The joyful crowds continued to celebrate through the night, as Tuesday has been declared a regional holiday in the southern town.
And there is more music and dancing in reserve. Today, the
White City's anniversary program revolves around the Friendship Parade 2017, a colorful display of floats, dancing and happiness that is sure to convene thousands.
